The main objective of Bildiğin Ekonomi (roughly translatable as The Economy As You Know It, or better yet Know Your Economy) is to make publicly accessible economic knowledge pertaining to the political economy of Turkey. While an important focus of the website is to present and explain statistical data to whoever wants to know about the economy, Bildiğin Ekonomi will also be a platform for other forms of knowledge, including but not exclusive to narratives that account for (on occasion competing) qualitative explanations of causal logics and conversations with economists and other economic actors on particular economic phenomena as well as on the state of economic knowledge itself. The website also intends to function as a node for the dissemination of publicly available documentaries on various economic issues, as well as a site for critical images by visual artists from Turkey.
We hope to reach not only a general public but also scholars from other disciplines who would like to access and make use of knowledge regarding the political economy of Turkey in their own research and teaching. In this spirit, whenever we post an entry, we hyperlink the source if it is publicly available. In this manner, this website can evolve into a portal where the public available data can be reached in a systematic manner.
Despite economics is usually considered to be a sealed language exclusive only to the students of the discipline, this need not be the case. In this website, in order to make economics easily comprehensible and appealing for all, the language of the entries and the statistical tables have been kept as simple as possible. In the long run, we hope to create an interactive platform where a critical knowledge can be produced pertaining not only to the political economy of Turkey but also to the fundamental concepts of economics.
